In Administrative Assistant Skills Training: Excelling as an Administrative Assistant, you will learn how to make office politics a positive tool, build strong business relationships, and manage temporary staff effectively. The training program will teach you how to create a stress management plan and develop a positive attitude. In addition, the training program will teach you how to work effectively with your supervisor, work well with multiple supervisors, and manage the office when your supervisor is absent.

Training Audience

The target audience for this training program is administrative assistants, secretaries, office managers, clerks, and others who serve in a support role.

Total Training Time

2 to 4 hours

The DEMO featured below shows you exactly how the training will look once you place into your computer: Navigation Bar, Viewing Area, and Controls. The buttons in the Navigation Bar show the different Lessons in the course. Clicking on a lesson button displays the Topics in the lesson. When you select a topic, the topic movie plays in the Viewing Area. VCR like buttons allows you to stop, Fast-forward, or rewind any section.  It is not necessary to have to take the course from start to finish.

 

Unit 1: Handling the Office Environment (0.5 - 1 hour)

  • In this simulation, you will meet with Lori Myers, the Office Manager of Icon's Legal Department. You are a new assistant in the department, and Lori has asked to meet with you to discuss the office environment. Your goals are to demonstrate that you know how to make use of office politics, build strong business relationships, and manage temporary staff.

Unit 2: Keeping a Positive Attitude (0.5 - 1 hour)

  • Identify the guidelines for creating a stress management plan.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how stress expresses itself in the workplace.

  • Simulation Overview:
  • In this simulation, you are the new Administrative Assistant in the Accounting Department of Icon's San Francisco Division. Anita Cobb, your supervisor in the department, has asked to have a quick meeting with you. The department is about to enter a very busy time of the business year, and while Anita has confidence in your technical ability to handle the work, she wants to make sure you're prepared to deal with the stress that this time of year brings. She will discuss stress and its possible affects on you, how you plan to handle the stress, and how you will maintain a positive attitude. Your goals are to demonstrate that you know about the different ways stress can negatively affect you, that you're prepared to counteract that stress, and that you have a plan for staying positive.

Unit 3: Maximizing Your Performance (1 - 2 hours)

  • Simulation Overview:
  • In this simulation, you are the Administrative Assistant in the Research and Development Department of Icon's San Francisco Division. You've only been with the department for a few weeks. You are meeting with Roger McAlister, your supervisor, to discuss the upcoming week's events. Roger has been asked at the last minute to be the Icon representative and presenter at a tradeshow in Las Vegas. He'll be gone for most of the week. Your goals are to help Roger prepare for the tradeshow and his absence by working with him effectively and planning how you will manage the office while he is gone. Roger shared the e-mail he received about the tradeshow with you so you'd have the dates for the trip. The e-mail outlined that Roger's presentation needs to include a demonstration of Icon's new VR 300 voice recognition software.
